Steampunk City Noises
The city is hazy with steam and fog, dense with the overcrowded bustle of shoppers and the smell of frying sweet pastry. Small boys wearing scuffed caps and sly expressions dart amongst the crowd, picking up a handkerchief here, a wallet there. Street cats slink into the shadows as tall men made taller by their hats doff them to winking, flirtatious dollymops. A deep beat throbs overhead as a slow-moving dirigible passes, followed by a swooping entourage of lighter-than-air crafts. Dashing in their aviator get-ups, they wave at the entranced audience on the ground; dipping and diving for the cheering masses. Eager street peddlers sidle through the throng, offering replica goggles and flags adorned with aircraft names.
